Danone UK said: "We would like to reassure parents that the quality and safety of our products is our number one priority. We have recently introduced new Aptamil formulations and we recognise that some families have not found the transition to the new formula easy. The results have shown that babies take to this formula well and that it is safe. When asked why the baby milk formula was changed, Danone did not immediately reply. Rebecca Heal in Larkfield, Kent, told the BBC that she complained to Aptamil about the new recipe and smaller packaging, and was told that the formula was changed because of "scientific research and costs to cover that".
Then a couple of weeks ago I noticed a leaflet in a new tub of Aptamil saying how they had changed the way they make their milk and to expect changes in your baby's stool, but that there was nothing to worry about. Sure enough within 2 days of using this new tub, DD was unhappy and crying again. Also her poo had a greenish tinge.
So I phoned the Aptamil helpline and expressed my concerns and what the lady said to me went something like this: We haven't changed the composition of the milk at all, the reason it's slightly different is we have new drying machines. Your baby becoming unhappy and having green poo is nothing to do with the change to our product and is a sheer coincidence. Besides, babies poo changes all the time.
Being the trusting fool I am, I thought, oh, must be something else then. Their whole stance seems to be, We've changed our formula and we feel obligated to inform you of this, but if it's making your baby ill then we haven't changed our formula!!!
I feel the makers of Aptamil have behaved disgracefully and would be interested to hear if any other parents have experienced anything similar to what I have. And, if so, did they find a formula that doesn't cause tummy ache and misery! PS Thinking of contacting Watchdog, haha. See last answer. Your browser cannot play this video. My son is on Aptamil he was on Sma for the first 2 months then had to change him because he has reflux.
Anyway my son has been great on it and I haven't noticed any change I think we have gone through 2 and a half tubs. Would be interested to see if others have had problems Jo xx.
In a Facebook post , the company said the new products are "more sensitive to temperature than in the past," and users must follow mixing guidelines to boil water and "cool in the kettle for 30 minutes and no longer," and that it is "important to shake the formula milk vigorously and vertically for at least 10 seconds. Aptaclub UK shared a helpline number parents can call for assistance. When Davies called the number regarding the new Aptamil formula, she said the representative she spoke with "blamed" her for not following instructions properly.
Davies said she asked the Aptaclub representative whether the company intends to take the formula off the shelves until the problem had been investigated. The representative told her there are no plans to do so, Davies said.
