Thanks, crazycanuck. I run mine once a week on deep optimize before i go to bed.. I'll use the fast optimize if i have downloaded any large files or installed a new game and patches before i play or right after a download.
Windows defrag is the crappiest you can ever get. Even TuneUp defrag which is an extremely bad form of defrag is better than Windows. And with the average number of fragments above 1. For me, a some 5 years ago, in XP defrag took about 7 hours with about that much of data and that was when I got Diskeeper.
Never regretted that because Diskeeper was a wonder. Diskeeper Pro Premier was fantastic and now is still more fantastic. I have purposely tested their Invitasking and found that if I defrag the OS drive even when I play Crysis at max settings my comp allows, I get almost no fps drop because Diskeeper utilizes so little resources and still defrags at least 10 times faster than Windows. And believe me, most of the files were very small and numerous while there were quite a few very huge files too.
You just blindly hand your system off to an app and wonder when you get it back. But another quick and easy defragger can be found at AUSLogics, which puts out a lot of handy little apps like this Diskeeper is what I use and trust, I purchased the Pro Premier for all the bells and whistles. Defrag seems to do nothing for me so I choose not to use it.
You guys live on another planet. Mine take easy. I can turn it on at night, let it run till i wake up, and it's still not done on double 's. My iobit smart defrag smokes through a defrag and deep hdd otimization in less then an hour on my 2 hard drives and thats if they are really chopped up.
But it also auto defrags when your system is idle so that also helps and auto defrag shuts down and various customizable benchmarks. It has a really decent visual indicator of how bad the hdd is fragmented and shows you the progress. Most of the time now the defrag and optimization only takes between minutes. Damn board errors when im trying to send a reply!!!! As I stated in another thread in ref to defraging, I had diskeeper and even though it's a paid progran, I like Smartdefarg over it, sometime free is better LOL Depends on your HDD.
Your storage - how much you are using. The more files, the longer. Mb Cache - The more, the better. How often your defraging - one time at a week is recommended. Well crazy I downloaded the smart defrag And its running now Either it has a harder time with the raid stripe , or its just gonna run slow on here for some reason Its been running for and hour and still showing 2hr 45 min left Often anti-virus software and other applications that read or write to the hard drive will slow down your game performance.
Close all unneeded applications prior to launching your game. Not only does defragging increase the life span of your hard drive, but it also makes games run faster. Most people should defrag their hard drives about once a month, but your computer might need it more frequently.
Windows users can use the built-in disk defragmenter utility on their computers. It will tell you whether or not your hard drive requires defragging. It can take anywhere from passes to 40 passes and more to complete.
There is no set amount of defrag. You can also manually set the passes required if you use third party tools. Defragging rearranges the layout of files on your hard disk for faster access. Specifically when or even if you need to do it at all is evolving. Here are the 10 useful Disk Defragmenter software for Windows 10, 8, 7 and other versions, which can make your PC as good as new!
By default, Optimize Drives, previously called Disk Defragmenter, runs automatically on a weekly schedule at the time set in automatic maintenance. But you can also optimize drives on your PC manually.
When your files are not scattered but are stored in one place, they load faster and your whole system speeds up. Your computer can sort and locate files much easier. JavaScript is disabled. For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding.

So the other day it dawned on me that it has been an exceptional amount of time since i carried out any maintenance for my computer, which is now outdated, and so i felt like it was time to do so. I first used disk cleanup which managed to find and delete 9GB worth of clutter and i then went on to defragment my disk. What could possibly be making this take so long? Is it my outdated hardware?
Thanks in advance, Sean. Jun 14, 13, 49, 1, Doesn't feel right. U should stop it and run some kind of tool that will scan the whole drive for CRC errors and whether any files affected. Run a s. I only start to defrag because my MMO game starts to load more than 5 minutes all of sudden.
